<p>On the way to gallery hopping in Chelsea, I found a Vietnamese restaurant <em>Omai</em>. There is no sign on the front but with some bamboo trees potted by the entrance. <em>Omai</em> doesn't offer typical Vietnamese street food like you get in Chinatown or Queens, but more upscale versions of flavors, presentation, and normal NYC price. I had beef noodle soup, <em>Pho Bo</em> for lunch and it was pretty delicious. The broth was very clean, topped with thinly sliced beef, onions, and fresh bean sprouts and Thai basil. Sometimes I find Pho soup in Chinatown shops a little bit cloudy and oily, so I liked <em>Omai&rsquo;</em>s clean <em>Pho</em>.</p>

Since the opening of their fourth loacation in LES in Spring 2011, my normal weekend starts with... stopping by <em>Caf&eacute; Grumpy</em> for a cup of coffee or Americano, then going to the the park across the cafe, relaxing with my hubby and my 11-year-old Jack Russell. <em>Caf&eacute; Grumpy</em>'s LES location is tiny, but they bake all the fresh pastries, treats and breads right next door. Staffs are friendly and coffee is always delicious. <p class="p1">G<em>astro Bar @ 35th</em> is a lovely Spanish tapas bar in Garment District in NYC. The tapas bar is currently hosting "Sprig Sips with Rioja" from April 16th to May 18th. It's a great opportunity to taste daily Rioja wine specials by glass and Riojan tapas parings. On Fridays you can sip and chat with Spanish wine &amp; food specialists.</p>
<p>On April 19th <a href="http://us.riojawine.com/en/">Vibrant Rioja</a> promoted the Kick-Off Tasting Party welcoming a Michelin starred Chef Ignacio Echapresto of <a href="http://www.ventamoncalvillo.com">La Venta de Moncalvillo</a>&nbsp;who created Riojan tapas pairs with Rioja wines.&nbsp;There were 10 Gastronomy &amp; Wine Stations featured a various selections of classic and modern reds, crisp whites, and juicy ros&eacute;s. In addition to so many kinds of tapas, there was a ham station where guests were able to taste a fresh sliced finest&nbsp;Iberico ham, and taste&nbsp;BEA Organic Biodynamic olive oil.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gb-35.com/"><strong>Gastro Bar @ 35th</strong></a>はスペインのタパス料理とワインが楽しめるレストランバー です。４月１６日から５月１８日までの期間, スペインの代表的な高級ワイン、リオハをプロモーションしています。リオハワインと一緒にタパス料理をつまみながら、NYではあまり見かけないワインも楽しむことができます。毎週金曜日にはスペイン料理とワインの専門家と一緒にリオハワインとタパス料理のペアリングも行っています。</p>

<p>My favorite macaron shop, <em>Bisous Ciao</em> is an adorable macaron boutique in LES. Colorful sweet confections are lined up perfectly in a glass case at the boutique.&nbsp;In addition to their classic flavors (for example, raspberry, pistachio,&nbsp;dark chocolate, salted caramel, and lemon), the new Spring/Summer 2012 flavors have arrived. They are... strawberry, apricot &amp; walnut, mandarin &amp; wasabi(!), and yuzu.</p>
<p>I love Yuzu flavor in general, and Bisous Ciao's new Yusu macaron was such a delightful treat. Yuzu cream with a yuzu marmalade in the center was sandwiched between the crunchy light yellow-orange macarons. It was a perfect one bite to get ready for Spring!<br /><br />*Yuzu is a sour Japanese citrus fruit, used both for its juice and its aromatic rind, similar to a cross between grapefruit and lime.</p>
<p>LESにあるマカロン専門屋&nbsp;<a href="http://www.bisousciao.com/"><strong>Bisous Ciao</strong></a> は、NYで私が一番気に入っているマカロン屋さんです。小さな店内には２０種類ほどのマカロンたちがガラスのケースの中にきれいに並んでいます。クラッシックなフレバーと言えば、ラズベリー、ピスタチオ、ダークチョコレートなど。どのフレーバーも甘すぎず美味しいので、ついお店に寄ってしまいます。</p>

<p><em>Top Hops Beer Shop</em> newly opened on my block Orchard street in LES. The shop is spacious industrial loft like space with a big <em>Top Hops Beer Shop</em> logo in your face as you enter the shop. There is a long bar in front where you can taste selected draught beers, and on back two long glass refrigerators holding various brands of cold bottled beers and kegs.</p>
<p>The shop is a retail beer shop as well as a beer tasting bar with carefully selected American craft beers and import from all over the world. Featuring 20 draught beers and over 700 brands of bottled beer &ndash; so many beers to choose from. The draught beers can be tasted at the bar counter, and customers can purchase a take-home &ldquo;Growlers&rdquo; (reusable custom designed 64oz and 32oz bottle).</p>
<p>Friendly staffs are all certified beer servers. They are passionate about beer and especially dedicated to their draught lines. There is a big board behind the bar that indicates all the draught beers they carry that day. One night I asked one of the staffs to recommend me a larger beer on tap, then he let me tasted <em>Budweiser</em>. Not to discriminate about the Bud, but&hellip;Bud? It was not like the Bud I knew. The Bud on tap tasted incredible. The staff explained to me that<span style="color: #1a1a1a;"> </span>when served properly and stored, cleaned, and treated the way the brewer intended, Bud should taste like that, a good classic American larger.</p>
<p>A small snack menu is available to nibble, including a selection or cheese, olives, <a href="http://mastbrothers.com/">Mast Brothers</a> chocolate, and German style soft pretzels. If you want to try different brands of beer, then go for the tasting set that includes your choice of 4 small glasses of draught beers. Since I live across the shop, everytime passing by the shop, I can&rsquo;t resist stopping by for a glass of cold beer or bottled beer to take home.</p>
<p>Lower East Side にある&nbsp;<a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://www.tophops.com/">Top Hops Beer Shop</a><strong>&nbsp;</strong>は数ヶ月前に&nbsp;オープンしたばかりのビール専門店です。店内の壁に描かれている大きな Top Hops Shop のロゴが、ガラス越しに外からも目立ちます。店内に入ると、１０数席ほどのバーカウンターがあり、一見、LES に数多くあるバーのひとつに見えるかもしれませんが、２０種類の生ビール、奥の長い冷蔵庫には アメリアカ国内外から集められた７００種類以上ものビールが保管されている、かなり本格的はなビール専門のお店です。</p>
<p>Top Hops Beer Shop では、奥の冷蔵庫にあるビール販売もしていますが、バーカウンターで生ビールも楽しめます。気に入った生ビールを、お店のロゴ入りのオリジナルボトル (１リットル、又は２リットル) のボトルに注いでもらってテイクアウトもできます。</p>
<p>お店のスタッッフ全員がビール認定の資格を持っているので、色々と質問しながら自分好みのビールに出会えるはず。生ビールが保管されているケグは、最低２週間以内に掃除をして常にきれいな状態を保つことで、生ビールの味そのものをお客さんに楽しんでもらおうと、ビールにとてもこだわっています。バドワイザーなどアメリカ定番の生ビールの他に、週によってかわる生ビールの数々。バーカウンターの後ろの壁に、生ビールの名前と種類、アルコール数などが表示してあるので、気に入ったビールを覚えやすいようになっています。</p>

<p class="p1"><strong>March 20th is the Macaron Day in NYC</strong> since 2010. The special day was organized by a chef <a href="http://www.payard.com/">Fran&ccedil;ois Payard</a> who creates beautiful sweet confections at his shops in NYC. <a href="http://macarondaynyc.com/participants2012.html">More than 20 participating shops</a> will be celabrating the Macaron Day with a free macaron giveaway on March 20th.</p>
<p class="p1">What is a Macaron?<br />The legendary French confection, Macaron is made&nbsp;with almond flour, sugar and eggg whites to form its delicate and airly round shell, filled with a variety of smooth ganache, commonly creamy buttercream or jam.&nbsp;</p>
<p class="p1">My favorite macarons are definitley smooth creamy pistachio, and fruity rapsberry!</p>

<p class="p1">さくっとしっとりなマカロンは色も種類も豊富。 メレンゲ、砂糖、アーモンドパウダーを混ぜて焼き上げてあるので、あの独特な感触に。NYでもここ数年でマカロンのお店が増えたように思います。マカロンのお店に行って、どのマカロンにしようか迷って結局私がいつも選んでしまうのが、クリーミーなピスタチオかラズベリージャムのマカロン。</p>

<p class="p1">By the way, the phrase "cup of joe" comes from&nbsp;Josephus Daniels, who was appointed&nbsp;Secretary of the U.S. Navy by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913, was said to have abolished the officers' wine mess. <p class="p1"><span class="s1"><em>Clinton Street Baking Company</em> is the popular Lower East Side brunch spot. Prepare to wait for at least an hour wait during the busy weekend brunch time. Founded in 2001 by husband and wife team, the small restaurant serves homey American comfort food. The restaurant opens at 8 am with freshly baked goods lined up on counter such as muffins, scones, pies, and its famous buttermilk biscuits. The warm biscuit is delicious on its own, but I love the biscuit as a sandwich with scrambled eggs, melter cheddar, and homemade tomato jam. Don&rsquo;t forget to add a few slices of addictive sugar cured thick cut bacon in the sandwich.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">In addition to the delightful biscuits, <em>Clinton Street Baking</em> is known for its famous pancakes. The signature pancakes are blueberry, banana walnut or chocolate chunk. The pancakes are light, fluffy and moist, melt in your mouth sensation with a drizzle of warm maple butter syrup. The secret of the super fluffy pancakes is in the batter: whipped egg whites are gently folded into the pancake batter in order to make the light and airy texture. I&rsquo;m a big fan of blueberry pancakes. Chunks of wild maine blueberries are inside the pancakes, and blueberry compote is on the top of the pancakes &ndash; Blueberry Heaven.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">National Pancake week is February 19 to 25 this year. <em>Clinton Street Baking</em> is celebrating with <a href="http://www.clintonstreetbaking.com/?page=about-pancakemonth">new limited edition pancakes</a> in the entire month of February. Every two to three days new pancakes are served at the restaurant all day long. I&rsquo;m looking forward to try their chocolate chunks pancakes with fresh raspberries, and raspberry-caramel sauce that will be served on 27, 28 and 29th.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Lower East Side にある <a href="http://www.clintonstreetbaking.com/">Clinton Street Baking&nbsp;Company</a>&nbsp;は、週末ブランチの時間帯で１時間待ちが当たり前、という人気のレストランです。２００１年に夫婦二人で始めたClinton Street Baking、毎朝８時オープンと同時に、店内で焼かれる手作りのビスケット、マフィン、スコーン、ケーキやパイなどがカウンターに並びます。一番人気のベーカリーはバターミルクビスケット。手作りジャムとバターでシンプルに食べるのもいいですが、チェダーチーズとトマトソースがのった、スクランブルエッグ・サンドイッチは昼食に食べてもいいくらいのボリューム。甘さと塩気が絶妙な、お店のオリジナルベーコンを加えるとさらに満足度アップ。<br /> <br /> どのベーカリーもおいしいですが、Clinton Street Baking といえば、パンケーキ。テレビや雑誌で何度も紹介されている超有名なパンケーキは、今も昔と変わらず期待を裏切らない、私の中ではNYで一番のパンケーキです。私が決まってオーダーするのは、ブルーベリー・パンケーキ。大粒の新鮮なブルーベリーたちが、４段に重ねられた大きめのパンケーキの中に、コンポートとしてパンケーキの上に。ふんだんにブルーベリーが使われています。フワっとした軽いパンケーキにメープルバターシロップをかけて、、、見た目はけっこうなボリュームですが、意外と一人で完食できてしまいます。小麦粉、卵、バターミルクなど、Clinton Street Baking のパンケーキのレシピは、オーガニック卵を使うなど素材自体にこだわり、フワっとした食感にするために卵白を別に泡立てたものを生地に優しく混ぜ合わせている、とのこと。</span></p>
